Sophie is a motion designer, VJ and artist based in San Francisco, CA. She balances her time between freelance motion graphics and her own artwork.

Thinking of projections as “moving wallpaper”, Sophie first creates animations in After Effects, which she then mixes live using VDMX5. Layering multiple pieces with various masks and effects, she thinks of her work as evolving paintings. Sophie always looks to find balance between the organic: natural textures, plant inspired illustrations, and orgranic motion - with the manmade: hard geomteric lines, glitching, and fully saturated digital colors. When her animations are collaged together, projected large-scale, and paired with music - it creates an immersive, surreal space.

Motion Designer and artist Sophie Baker has a background in fine art, which she developed far beyond the canvas, turning to video and animation to realize her creative vision. She now imagines surreal, evolving landscapes with abstract textures using specialist animation software to create immersive visual environments that have become a fixture in San Francisco's electronic music scene in the last couple of years. Baker notably performed at MUTEK SF last year alongside local artist Sepehr, offering her colorful alien landscapes to his acclaimed electro experiments, and has also performed alongside Chris Cruse, DJ Seinfeld, Maya Jane Coles and many others.
